Pelorus Trust Wellington Brass Band has won the New Zealand B-grade brass band championship title for the second year running. Conductor David Bremner said he was very proud of the band for its consistently high-level of contest performances. “I’m looking forward to the possibility of the band being promoted to the A gradeâ€, he said, when the band returned to Wellington.
Come and see the band march in the annual Wellington Christmas Parade. The rain date is Sunday 23 November.
All the hard work paid off for the band when they won the Australian B-Grade on Easter Sunday, 23 March.
The Australian national contest was held in Brisbane this year and Pelorus Trust Wellington Brass was one of only two NZ bands, with Dalewool, to make the trip across the Tasman.
The band won the Hymn, Own Choice and Test sections and came second in the Stage March, producing an aggregate well clear of the second-placed band.
Attention all supporters of the band!!! Dont miss the Wellington Brass Bands Pre-Australian National Contest Concert. The concert is going to be held on the 19th of March in the Salvation Army Hall, Vivian St, Wellington, tickets are $10 on the door. The concert will not only showcase the sophisticated and highly technichal test pieces (Diversions on a Bass Theme by George Lloydd, and Main Street by Eric Ball) that the band is performing in the contest over easter, but a variety of lighter enteraining numbers aswell as soloists and other fine small ensembles from the band.
It's that time of year again - the time that Wellington Brass Band walk around Wellington suburbs playing Christmas Carols. This year the band is fundraising to attend the Australian National Band Championships in Brisbane.
We're hoping to repeat our success at the 2007 New Zealand Brass Band Championships (we won the 'B' Grade) and show those Aussies a thing or two.
The Band is currently putting in a huge effort fundraising for the austrailian national contest at the end of march, and as summer is coming up we're selling Angel Bay meat patties again! These patties are 120g of delicious NZ beef (with onions & breadcrumbs etc), the band is selling them in packs of twenty for only 25$!!!!
If you think you might be having a BBQ or two this summer these patties would be ideal! They last for months in the freezer.
The patties, they will in all likelyhood be available for you to pick up or delivery (if arranged) from the bandrooms in early to mid november.

Even if you don't, please come along and support our Sausage Sizzles! We will be at Crofton Downs Mitre 10 on October 14th and November 4th and we're aiming to sell as many sausages as possible to raise funds for our trip to the Australian Nationals next year. Every sausage sold gets us a dollar or two closer to our target. See you there - and don't forget to bring ten of your closest friends and relatives!
The band met at the bandrooms at nine am, and from there we car pooled out to Southwards. The band then performed a Hymn and Test piece in the morning session. The hymn "Dear Lord and Father" went pretty well with no major worries. Without leaving the stage the band then played their test piece entitled "The Force of Destiny" by well known classical composer Verdi, this piece is technically very demanding, and whilst the band played well, a few sections of the band would've perhaps liked one or two more rehearsals to work on some of the harder tutti passages.
Clive Cunliffe has stepped down as President after "six years I think" in the role.
Clive has had to work pretty hard during this time as his years in the chair have been some of the most difficult the band has experienced. Clive did some very fine work holding the band together during the dark days of 2006 prior to Dave Bremner's appointment as conductor. The band and supporters should be thankful that Clive was there, otherwise Pelorus Trust Wellington Brass could easily have ceased to exist.
